Projects
Here are some of the various science and storytelling projects I am currently working on across California
Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District
Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is a public agency that protects over 65,000 acres of habitat in the San Francisco Peninsula. For the next year, I'll be working with Midpen’s natural resources and public affairs team to document wildlife on Midpen preserves using multimedia storytelling. Working on bats, badgers, peregrine falcons, and impacts of rodenticides on wildlife.
California Wolf Project
In the coming months, I'll be working on the storytelling for the California Wolf Project - a collaborative initiative by UC Berkeley, California Department of Fish & Wildlife, and National Geographic Society to research wolves in California as they return the state. I'll be assisting on camera trapping, content creation, and other photo documentation of this project. Learn more here
Shrew Photography
With funding from the California Academy of Sciences, we are working to document shrew diversity in California. One of the projects is to document a specific species of shrew which is the only mammal in California that's never been photographed before. Photos coming soon
California Creators For Nature
I was selected as one of the 5 members of the first California Creators for Nature Cohort. As part of this program, we are leveraging Academy resources, collections, and expertise to host in-person events and craft original digital content that helps connect audiences to California nature as part of the Academy's Thriving California Initiative.
Bay Area Mountain Lions
I'm researching mountain lion habitat, behavior, and ecology as part of my studies at UC Berkeley. In addition to this, I'm working to document Bay Area mountain lions in high quality using DSLR camera traps. In collaboration with Save Mount Diablo, UC Berkeley, and UC Natural Reserve System
Yosemite Great Gray Owls
With funding from the Yosemite Conservancy, I am working on a photo project to document the conservation of Yosemite's endangered great gray owl subspecies, Strix nebulosa Yosemitensis. Project being done in collaboration with Yosemite National Park Service
and Yosemite Conservancy.
Peninsula Open Space Trust
The Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is one of the most successful land trusts in the country, conserving land across the San Francisco Peninsula. I am working with POST to document wildlife on their land using high quality DSLR and mirrorless camera traps.
Point Reyes Mountain Beaver Project
In collaboration with the UC Berkeley Department of Integrative Biology and Point Reyes NPS, I am using DSLR and mirrorless camera traps to document a rare and elusive subspecies of mountain beaver in Point Reyes National Seashore, called Aplodontia rufa phaea
Bay Area Bobcats
While common in our local Bay Area Parks, bobcats are notoriously secretive and difficult to photograph. I've spent over 5 years and thousands of hours tracking and photographing them, capturing behavior that's never been documented before. Through all of this, I've been able give many Bay Area residents a glimpse into the secretive life of a bobcat
